2003年10月4日年仅18岁的Alex Parks赢得了著名的音乐比赛Fame Academy的大奖，由此一颗乐坛新星展现在世人面前。 Alex Parks出生在英国克伦威尔的小镇Mount Hawke，从小Alex就显示出她性格中独立坚强的特点，与其他女孩子相比，她跟喜欢爬树、骑马这样的运动。她赢得的第一个音乐奖项可以追溯到童年时在家乡镇上的小酒吧的一次歌唱比赛，她赢得了有生以来的第一笔奖金－－50英镑。随后Alex Parks加入了家乡的一支民谣乐队One Trick Pony，在乐队成员Dave的指导下，Alex开始接触到大量优秀的民谣摇滚，除了英国传统的优秀歌手和作品以外，像六七十年代的Joni Mitchell、八十年代的Ani DiFranco、九十年代的Michelle Branch这样具有代表性的美国歌手也给了Alex巨大的影响，由此Alex的音乐除了继承传统英式摇滚的高贵特质外，还具有相当的国际流行性。除了翻唱这些著名歌手的歌曲外，Alex也开始尝试自己创作歌曲，在家乡Alex成为具有相当知名度的小明星。
Alex Parks曾经的梦想是成为一名教师，不过她最终以全Ａ的成绩考入了圣奥斯特尔戏剧学院，系统学习了戏剧理论、舞蹈和各种表演技能，为她日后进入演艺界打下了坚实的基础。从学院毕业后，Alex Parks觉得最适合她的事业还是演艺业，她远赴荷兰的首都阿姆斯特丹担任一名最普通的演员。
2003年父亲背着Alex为她报名参加了由BBC主办的第二届Fame Acadmey新秀歌唱大赛，完全毫无准备的Alex Parks轻松打入决赛，并夺取了最终的总冠军。在比赛进行中Alex Parks始终保持着自信放松的状态，深情演绎了John Lennon、U2、Eurythmics、REM、Tears For Fears乃至于时下英国最走红的Coldplay乐队的代表作，不但赢得了数十万观众的喜爱，更是打动了唱片公司的老板，赢得了唱片合约。
2003年底Alex Parks的首张个人专辑《Introduction》正式推出，专辑的首支主打歌曲“Maybe Thats What It Takes”是Alex Parks参加Fame Academy大赛期间亲自创作完成，并最终凭借它夺得了决赛冠军的作品，对于这首以钢琴为主要配器的情歌，Alex说它代表了她对于音乐的理解。这首歌曲以及“Cry”和“Wandering Soul”的背景合奏更是请到了著名的伦敦交响乐团担任伴奏。11首歌曲中，Alex Parks亲自参与了7首歌曲的创作，此外Alex Parks还翻唱了四首经典名曲，也是她曾在Fame Acadmey大赛中演绎过的歌曲，包括了John Lennon的“Imagine”、Tears For Fears的“Mad World”、Eurythmics的主唱Annie Lennox的“Here Comes The Rain Again”以及Coldplay的“Yellow”。
